May 2020 Sewing Plans

Can’t believe it’s May already, I’ve found myself dreaming of a summer wardrobe and want to create all the dresses!! I live in London so it’s mostly cold and horrible but recently it’s starting to warm up and I want to create some more pieces for my handmade spring/summer wardrobe. I managed to sew everything in my April 2020 Sewing Plans, and really loved my Lois Midi Dress so I’ve decided to make these items below!

Phoebe – Linen Tank Top

I’ve had the Phoebe Linen Tank pattern by Fabric Store in the back of my mind for a few months now and I knew this would be perfect for me. This tank top is really simple and feels super versatile to wear, making it an essential piece in any wardrobe. I wanted to create something that has an easy-wearing vibe with no closures, that I could just throw on with a pair of jeans. I specifically chose this tank pattern because I will hopefully only need 1 metre of fabric to make this – which is great for using up scrap fabric or only purchasing a small amount! So excited to see how this turns out, I might even try to embroider the neckline too!

Floral Dress – Etoile Dress

I am obsessed with floral dresses at the moment and know they will be my go-to look when it’s nice and sunny outside. I actually used to wear them quite a lot at university, especially in autumn with a coat and tights but for some reason, I’ve not worn any for years and got comfortable wearing jeans and a t-shirt. I really want to wear more dresses because it makes me feel good and wearing patterns is a great way for me to wear more colour. The Etoile dress sewing pattern by French Poetry looks absolutely stunning and seems like a relatively straight-forward make! It features a deep v-neckline with front buttons and a flattering silhouette with some really cute details like gathered sleeves and ties. I am hoping to make a sleeveless version of this dress in a bright floral print, so fingers crossed it turns out well!

I’ve got a few more ideas of what I want to make this month or next, but I have quite a few sewing patterns in mind and am trying to figure out which ones I want to make first! So many to choose from… On my list, I was thinking of trying the Tilly and The Buttons Indigo dress or the Eloise dress or Flora dress by By Hand London. I’m undecided on which one I fancy the most as they all seem so great, so I think I will end up sewing one of those in the moment! It’s so lovely to be able to capture what I anticipate to make in one space and then review what did and didn’t go well or what I didn’t manage to sew! I highly recommend gathering your thoughts and writing down an almost to-do list of garments, as I find the choice and idea that I can make anything quite overwhelming!
